Plans
The following views represent the existing rail corridor through Salem from south (at the Methuen line) to north (the Windham town line). Segments are numbered 1 to 4 for engineering reference, not the sequence in which they may be built into the Salem Bike-Ped Corridor. Also, the yellow line indicates the path of the original rail bed, not necessarily exactly where the bike-ped corridor would be located. For example, Section 4 shows the yellow line between North Broadway (Route 28) and Old Rockingham Road. This line is much closer to the homes than desired plus it follows the depressed area through rock cut which is now a wetland. Plans call for that section of the bike-ped corridor to be along the side of North Broadway between the roadway and the original rail bed. Note that engineering plans are not firm at this time but minimal impact to the environment and property owners along the corridor is a major consideration.
