NH Safe Routes to School Coordinator on-board December 1, 2006

Job posting filled: Welcome to John Corrigan

After much discussion and many delays, the Federal Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program is moving ahead here in New Hampshire. The details are too involved for this December update page, but basically $1,000,000.00 a year is allocated to each state to improve facilities and bike-ped education for children in grades K-8. A portion of this funding pays for a state SRTS Coordinator who oversees various projects including some education programs. In most cases, funding is handled by the state DOT but NH did not find a qualified person within their department, thus the position was posted for the public to apply.

On November 16 the BWA-NH first learned about this position being filled by NH DOT. John Corrigan is expected to work in NH DOT's Bureau of Planning and Community Assistance. Various bike-ped organizations including the BWA-NH are very pleased to have a SRTS Coordinator selected and look forward to working with him on many projects.
