"Better Biking" Course Details

LAB "Road I" Course comes to Derry NH

The Bike-Walk Alliance of NH (formerly the GSBA) in cooperation with the NH Community Technical College is pleased to offer a four-session, twelve-hour course aimed at adult on-road cyclists wishing to improve their skills. Each session will be split between classroom and on-road training, so plan to bring your bike and all cycling gear including helmet. The course is based on the nationally-recognized LAB Cycling Program, formerly called Effective Cycling. Instructors will be Dave Topham, LCI #39, and Judi Hull, an EC program graduate.

All four sessions will be held at the NHCTC Pinkerton Academy campus in Derry NH on Monday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. A $49.00 registration fee payable to the college will cover the course including various handouts and material. " Bicycle selection including style and size
" Bicycle quality based on components and price
" Basic mechanical checks before riding
" Cyclist preparations including safety gear, food, and water
" Lights and reflectors for night riding
" Short ride and parking lot maneuvers

Session Two, May 8:

" Easier cycling by shifting properly
" Traffic rules for cyclists
" Lane positioning
" Group cycling techniques
" Short ride with training stops

Session Three, May 15:

" Emergency handling techniques
" Basic road-side maintenance
" Trip planning
" Coping with dogs
" Short ride and parking lot maneuvers

Session Four, May 22:

" Flat tire repair including tube patching
" Brake and derailleur adjustments
" Preventative maintenance and lubrication
" Transportation of bicycles
" Short ride with training stops
