NH Seacoast Greenway

Cycling along the scenic NH seacoast

Introduction:

NH Seacoast Greenway is a proposed rail-trail from the Massachusetts border to the Maine border. For now, the interim route in NH is On-Road, but plans are in the works for the off-road rail-trail.

NH Seacoast Greenway is a vision to make a off-road non-motorized, trail from the MA line connecting with the Coastal Trails, to the Memorial Bridge in Portsmouth, connecting with Maine's Eastern Trail. The Seacoast Greenway will be a leg of the East Coast Greenway, a 3000 mile trail currently being constructed from Key West, FL to Calais, ME.

For now, the on-road route, an incredibly scenic route following Route 1A has been defined as the current NHSG route. It is virtually all on road. Most of this route has a shoulder, but some sections do not. The project Advisory Committee has approved the design of the signage, and they should be installed this spring (2008).

Project updates:

Our goals are to identify preferred on-road and off-road routes for the NH segment of the East Coast Greenway; develop an implementation plan addressing trail funding and management; and begin building public support for trail development. The study area for the project includes eight Seacoast communities: Seabrook, Hampton Falls, Hampton, N. Hampton, Greenland, Rye, New Castle, and Portsmouth
