Introduction:

The Friends of The Goffstown Rail Trail is an organization of energetic, dedicated citizens volunteering to participate in the promotion, design, development, and maintenance of the trail. The group meets at 7:00 PM on the last Monday of each month at the Goffstown Parks & Recreation Center. The FGRT is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Donations are tax-deductible to the full extend allowed by law. Membership information can be found at www.GoffstownRailTrail.org/join.html

The Friends of the Goffstown Rail Trail raises funds for trail crossing road signs, and donates them to the town for installation.

November 2008:

Work is completed on two trail segments, funded by 2007 and 2008 RTP grants.

The Friends of the Goffstown Rail Trail constructs a small trail bridge, funded by a grant from PSNH.

An Eagle Scout project is completed by Andrew Angione, who constructed a landscaped berm to separate the trail from nearby condominium buildings.

October 4, 2008:

Official groundbreaking ceremony for construction of the Goffstown Rail Trail. See web site for details.

April 2008:

Great news - the Hands Across the Merrimack bridge is now open!

For those who aren't familiar with this project, it is the rehabilitation of the old railroad trestle over I-293 and the Merrimack River into a pedestrian and bicycle bridge. It connects Manchester's Piscataquog Trail on the west side, to the Riverwalk on the East side. This is of particular interest to us in Goffstown, because the Piscataquog Trail will connect the Goffstown Rail Trail to this bridge. Some day we will be able to walk or ride all the way from Goffstown's Main Street to Manchester's mill district.

The town has recently completed a survey of the trail corridor. The first grant for the trail (from the NH Bureau of Trails) was received this summer. The funds will be used for installation of a trail surface on the "First Mile" project. Volunteers have cleared this section of the trail in preparation for construction in the spring.
